Artist's Statement

During the Renaissance, portraits were one of the main subjects of art. Artists were revered if they could make their art incredibly realistic. Renaissance artists tried to take realism to the next level. They are the ones I draw my inspiration from. I try to create portraits that look realistic. I want my art to look like it's about to move off the page. I work towards making art so realistic that you get lost in it.

While Renaissance artists used mainly paint, I like experimenting with different media. Sometimes I'll use oil paint. Sometimes I'll draw in pen. Sometimes I cannot decide between colored pencil and pastel because those two are my favorite to work in. Colored pencils allow me to see the marks I make up close but create a realistic image from afar. I use pastels when I want brilliant, vivid colors and a soft feel. Trying new medium is exciting and helps me to become a better artist.

Art is my path in life. Whether working on commissions, teaching art to others, or drawing in my free time, art is what I love to do. I have been drawing since my earliest memories. Before I knew how to write I was drawing. I have been striving since a young age to create fantastic art and it will always be a part of my life.
